About me
(A few people have told me they actually read this, so here it is.)
Hello,
I’m Rhett—the owner of Rhett’s Frets.
I grew up in rural Idaho, and a lot of my early memories involve guitars—either playing them or taking them apart to figure out how they worked. Music was always around growing up, and it stuck with me pretty early on.
From the beginning, I was drawn not just to how guitars sounded, but how they worked—how everything came together to create something that made music. It didn’t take long before I started tinkering with my own guitars, adjusting setups, tweaking truss rods, and trying to make them feel and sound better.
While I tried a lot of different things growing up, guitar repair is what stayed. I’ve always enjoyed the challenge of getting an instrument to play its best, and the satisfaction of bringing something back to life. Nothing else really held my attention the same way.
During college in Rexburg, Idaho, I worked at a small local shop called Mike’s Music from 2015 to 2019. That’s where I really started learning the trade—handling everything from routine setups to fretwork, and eventually building solid body electric guitars. That experience laid the foundation for what would become my own repair shop. I owe a lot of where I am today to Brandon Doggett, the manager of Mike’s Music—the guy who took a chance on a completely unproven guitar tech.
After my college graduation in 2019, I started Rhett’s Frets with the goal of doing clean, honest work and building real relationships with the people I work with.
In 2021, I moved to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where I live with my wife and greatest support, Hasini, and our two dogs, Loki and Skye. I do sincerely miss Idaho, but I’ve come to really appreciate the music community here in Middle Tennessee—it’s a great place to be if you care about guitars.

Rhett’s Frets is built on a simple goal: do clean, honest, reliable work that makes your instrument play its best — the way I would want mine to play.
I’ve spent years working hands-on with guitars in both shop and live settings. In addition to running Rhett’s Frets, I regularly work as a guitar tech for touring artists, including Maren Morris, where consistency and reliability matter night after night.
I also work a few days a week at Carter Vintage Guitars in Nashville. That experience has significantly elevated how I approach every instrument that comes across the bench — greater attention to detail, greater respect for the instrument, and a tighter focus on longevity.
Whether it’s a simple setup or more involved repair work, the goal is always the same: get your guitar playing right and feeling right in your hands.
Thanks for taking the time to get to know a bit about me. I look forward to working with you and helping your guitar reach its full potential.
